Puff Paint Projects

June 4, 2010

We love us some crafting over here, but I have to say one of my all time favorites is the puff ‘paint’ pictures.  It’s a great sensory activity because the mixture is sticky, smooth, and gritty all at the same time!!  We made clouds this time around but it can be anything you or your kids could think of: snowmen for winter, add some sand and make it into a beach, add some food colour and glitter make it a rainbow, the possibilities are endless!  I made us three different colours for our craft today: blue, green, and white.  I also added in co-ordinating glitter in different grains which the kids found so great when they were running their hands through the mixes.

Cake had her cousin Olllie over to play, the loved it!

They loved the gloopiness, the swirling, the squishing!

By the time we were done there was at least 2 inches of foam on each paper.

Do you SEE that smile???

Do you also see that shirts are (mostly) clean? Doinig crafts with 2 three year olds is WAY better than doing crafts with a three year old and a 21 month old!

We did this while Nay was having his nap and when he woke I had left them to dry on the table.  He was not too pleased that he had missed out but as this is one of our favorites, I’m sure it’ll make a reappearance sometime soon.

Puffy Paint ‘recipe’

1 part white craft glue

2 parts shaving cream

food colour, glitter, coloured sand, whatever optional add-ins you have in your craft cupboard!

Mix it all up and go to town!

Make sure you give it at least 12 hours to dry before you give it back to the kids to play with.

That looks like so much fun, I will have to try it. Do you mix it and wait 12 hours before they play with it?

Nope, it’s ready right away but you have to wait 12 hours for the paper to dry before you let the kids play with it again. And make sure you lay it flat to dry otherwise you’ll get a pretty cloud on the floor to clean up 🙂
