What is it?
So, I did the recipe from my 1950 edition of Betty Crocker’s Picture Cookbook. It was…interesting? Yeah…not so good.
OK, stop laughing at me. I wanted to try to something different, something that I NEVER would have chosen otherwise. I’m pretty sure that I’ll never use this cookbook again. I’m pretty sure I’m going to use it for crafts because, well, no offense to 1950 Betty Crocker but the whole cookbook is a giant mess. The recipes are all jumbled together and really hard to follow and most of them are complete YUCK!! Including this one.
Basically you make a ‘candy’ sauce with cinnamon hearts (which is the only reason I chose this recipe to begin with) sugar, and water. Then you core and peel half of an apple and cook the apple in the ‘candy’ for a few minutes. During which time you brown your little sausages in a skillet cooking most of the way through. After the apples are done in the candy you insert (?) the sausages into the cored apples, pour over the remaining ‘candy’ and bake it in the oven until the apples are soft and the sausages are done.
Really, I don’t even want to share this recipe because it was SO bad. Really, that bad. Don’t cook apples in cinnamon heart candies. Don’t stuff said apples with sausage. Just don’t. You have been warned.
Shameful head shakes,
Jenn
I love that you are trying new things, but meat and cinnamon hearts…..really!!! Cookbooks from he 1950’s have some sriously nasty recipies. Ahhhh the begining of the packaged food era. Thanks for the chuckle!!!!
I am just laughing no comments just laughs.
That’s funny. I love Nathan’s facial expression priceless!! I’ve enjoyed info from your others blogs btw. 🙂
You could always cut up the leftovers and stuff a chicken with it! Think it is great that you post what didn’t work for you as well as what did. Kudos to you 🙂
ewwwww…!!! but so hilarious i almost want to try it.
Hilarious post!!! A sausage-link stuffed apple…who wudda thunk it? I think Betty Crocker was drinking a few too many martinis back in the ’50s and not doing enough recipe testing!!! I’ve got that same cookbook (first printing)…a gift from my mom-in-law. I keep it for nostalgic reasons…not so much to cook from. I’m now on a mission to find some other Betty Crocker treasures… 😉
